Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is Katbot?

Katbot is an AI-powered DeFi trading intelligence platform that analyzes markets, generates trade recommendations, and can execute leveraged perpetual trades on Hyperliquid. It follows a four-stage agentic workflow: Setup (create agents and portfolios), Research (AI-driven token discovery), Trade (AI recommendations and execution), and Monitor (track performance and positions).

Is Katbot free to use?

Katbot offers a FREE tier with limited features including basic agent recommendations and paper trading. Paid plans (STARTER, TRADER, PRO) unlock additional features like more recommendations, live trading on Hyperliquid, and access to premium AI models. See the Subscriptions guide for a full comparison.

What browsers are supported?

Katbot works in any modern browser that supports MetaMask. This includes Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Edge on desktop. It also works in MetaMask's built-in mobile browser on iOS and Android, though desktop is recommended for the best experience.

Can I use Katbot on mobile?

Yes. You can access Katbot through MetaMask's built-in browser on mobile devices. Note that your Hyperliquid agent private key is stored per-browser, so you will need to import it when switching from desktop to mobile. See Managing Your Agent Key Across Browsers for instructions.

How do I delete my account?

Account deletion is handled by the support team. Please contact us through the Discord support channel to request account deletion.

Agents & AI

What is the difference between a Katbot Agent and a Hyperliquid agent wallet?

These are two completely separate concepts:

  • A Katbot AI Agent is an AI entity you create on the dashboard. It has a system prompt, model configuration, and research settings. It generates trading recommendations.
  • A Hyperliquid agent wallet is a blockchain key pair that authorises trade execution on the Hyperliquid exchange. It signs orders on behalf of your master wallet.

See the Agents guide for AI agents and the Hyperliquid guide for agent wallets.

Which AI models does Katbot support?

Katbot supports models from multiple providers:

  • OpenAI — GPT-4o, GPT-4o Mini, o3-mini, and others
  • Anthropic — Claude Sonnet, Claude Haiku
  • Google — Gemini 2.0 Flash, Gemini 2.5 Pro
  • Open-source — DeepSeek R1 (via OpenRouter)

Model availability depends on your subscription tier. See Subscriptions for details.

How much conversation history does an agent remember?

By default, agents retain the last 10 messages of conversation history. This can be configured per agent from 1 to 100 messages. Longer history gives the agent more context but increases token usage.

Can I use the same agent across multiple portfolios?

Yes. An agent can be assigned to multiple portfolios. Each portfolio has one primary agent that generates recommendations, and can also have observer agents that provide secondary analysis. See Assigning an Agent to a Portfolio.

Hyperliquid Integration

Katbot uses Arbitrum because Hyperliquid’s primary liquidity source is USDC, and the most battle-tested bridge from the Ethereum ecosystem to Hyperliquid is anchored on Arbitrum. Most wallets (MetaMask, Rabby) and liquidity aggregators have deep integrations with Arbitrum, making it easier for users to deposit. HyperEVM is newer and still being refined, while the Arbitrum-to-Hyperliquid pipeline has been the stable production route.

Why does Katbot need an agent wallet?

Katbot uses Hyperliquid's native API Agent system so it can execute trades on your behalf without ever having access to your main wallet. The agent wallet can only place and manage orders — it cannot withdraw funds, transfer assets, or access your main account balance. You can revoke agent permissions at any time on the Hyperliquid platform. See The Agent Security Model for details.

Is my private key sent to Katbot's servers?

No. Your agent private key is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage. It is never transmitted to or stored on Katbot's servers. When a trade needs to be signed, the key is read from your browser and the signed request goes directly to Hyperliquid. See Katbot.ai Never Stores Your Keys.

What is the builder fee?

The builder fee is a small automation fee that Katbot charges per trade on Hyperliquid. It is capped at 0.0100% (1 basis point) per trade. You approve this fee during portfolio setup by signing a single off-chain MetaMask message — no on-chain transaction is required. You can revoke this approval at any time on Hyperliquid.

Can I have multiple Hyperliquid portfolios?

You can have one Testnet portfolio and one Mainnet portfolio at a time. If you need to create a new one, delete the existing portfolio first.

My agent key is missing in a different browser. What do I do?

This is expected — your key is stored per-browser and is never synced to a server. Export the key from your original browser using the Agent Debug panel, then import it in the new browser. See Managing Your Agent Key Across Browsers for step-by-step instructions.

What happens if I lose my agent private key?

If you lose your agent key and cannot recover it from any browser's local storage, the affected portfolio can no longer execute trades. You would need to:

  1. Delete the portfolio in Katbot
  2. Create a new portfolio (which generates a new agent wallet)
  3. Approve the new agent address on Hyperliquid

Your funds on Hyperliquid are safe — the agent key cannot withdraw or transfer assets. Only your ability to place trades through Katbot is affected.

Research

See Data Sources

What are research buckets?

Research buckets are predefined analysis categories that guide the AI's token discovery. Each bucket focuses on a different market signal:

  • New Listings — recently listed tokens
  • Momentum — tokens with strong price trends
  • Trending Social — tokens with rising social media attention
  • Funding Rate Anomaly — tokens with unusual funding rates
  • Volume Breakout — tokens with sudden volume spikes
  • Whale Activity — tokens with large holder movements
  • Sector Rotation — capital flows between crypto sectors
  • Correlation Divergence — tokens breaking from usual correlations
  • Liquidation Clusters — tokens near major liquidation levels

See the Research guide for details on configuring and running research.

Subscriptions & Billing

How do usage limits work?

Each subscription tier has monthly limits on features like recommendations, paper trades, live trades, and research runs. Usage resets at the start of each billing cycle. You can track your current usage on the dashboard. See Subscriptions for tier-specific limits.

Can I upgrade mid-cycle?

Yes. You can upgrade your subscription at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately and your usage limits increase to match the new tier.

What payment methods are accepted?

Katbot supports on-chain payments using USDC on Arbitrum. Payment is processed through a Web3 transaction from your connected wallet.

Troubleshooting

Why did my recommendation fail to execute?

Common reasons include:

  • Insufficient balance — not enough USDC margin to cover the position size
  • Agent key missing — your agent private key is not in this browser's local storage
  • Agent not approved — the agent address has not been authorised on Hyperliquid, or the approval has expired
  • Builder fee not approved — the Katbot automation fee has not been signed
  • Position limit reached — the portfolio has reached its maximum number of open positions
  • Minimum notional — Hyperliquid requires a minimum notional value of $10 per order

Check the Agent Debug Info panel on the portfolio page for detailed error messages.

See Troubleshooting for more Hyperliquid-specific issues.
